Manageress Back On Track for Spring Success
Oct 23, 2016
Despite wintery conditions, we braved the cold and rain and headed east today to Sale for the Ladbrokes Sale Cup with Manageress. Despite the very heavy track, the mare ran on well to finish 3rd beaten 0.7L in a driving finish by jockey Chris Parnham You can see by my drowned rat impersonation on my pre-race Racing.com interview just how wet the day was.
The miserable weather was disappointing for all connected with Sale Turf Club, but the marquees seemed to be buzzing and despite having to dodge the puddles, I think racegoers still enjoyed their day.
Racing in such conditions made the task of making up ground quite difficult for Manageress. Her run was still very promising and I don’t think a win is too far off.
So where to from here… Manageress will likely head to the Flemington Carnival where she is entered in the Group 1 Myer Classic on Derby Day ($500,000) at Flemington. As this is a 6 day back up, the race may come too soon. Another option for Manageress is the 1700m Mares Handicap on Cup Day, but at this stage the 2000m Matriarch Stakes on Stakes Day is looking the preferable option. This race is a Group 2, $300,000 race for mares.
Last year she was 2nd to the multiple Group 1 winner Lucia Valentina in the Matriarch so hopefully can go one better this year. The wide galloping track of Flemington seems to suit Manageress, as her 10 runs at headquarters have yielded 2 wins and 4 placings.
As we all know in racing, it’s hard to plan too far in advance. We will take each day as it comes and finalise Flemington plans over the next few days.
