Ladies Day in Ballarat?

Nov 18, 2016

Tomorrow we head to Ballarat for Cup Day where we have two runners. Having come on well since his win last start on Kyneton Cup Day, Smart Dart or Arrow as he’s more affectionately known as at home, runs in Race 2.

The 1200m City of Ballarat Tonks Plate will be a step up in class for Arrow as he lines up in this open handicap. Ben Thompson’s claim will help as will he takes his 2kg allowance off the allotted 54kgs. This race is the same distance as his last start and although it will be a tough race, Smart Dart has thrived since that run so certainly deserves to take his chance.

Manageress lines up in the main feature, the Ballarat Cup. She has drawn a good barrier in barrier 2 and this should limit the work she will have to do from the gate. This time the blinkers are off, which I hope will help settle her more than on her last run. Hopefully we will get a bit of luck in the straight too and who knows what might happen!

I’ve put Melbourne Cup winning jockey and local lady Michelle Payne onboard. Michelle, an astute jockey will know every blade of grass around the Ballarat track and her style of riding should suit the mare.

So it’s a female jockey, trainer and horse combination… here’s hoping it will be Ladies Day in Ballarat!
