Chasing the VOBIS Gold at Caulfield
Apr 22, 2017
We have a busy day ahead of us as we head off to Caulfield today with 5 runners. It's all hands on deck to ensure the day runs smoothly and it's days like today I appreciate the great team of staff I have around me.
Today is a great opportunity for the industry to recognise the work of the Owners and Breeders involved in our industry. There are several VOBIS races on offer today with quite a generous prize pool up for grabs so we are delighted to be in the mix. The VOBIS scheme has been running for the past few years and is a great initiative. It proves to be quite lucrative too if you are fortunate enough to win with a VOBIS qualified horse.
Our runners today start with MANAGERESS in the IRT VOBIS Gold Mile which is race 3 on the card. Damien Lane rides in what looks to be a strong race. Although Caulfield hasn't been a track she has favoured in the past, hopefully she can put in a good performance today and change that.
Next up is O'LONERA in the TROA VOBIS Gold Heath over 2000m. Luke Curry rides and this race appears to be a stronger race than last years renewal. Ideally our plan was to run at Caulfield a forthnight ago as preparation for today, but as you know the dreadful weather resulted in that meeting being postponed so the gelding ran at Caulfield last week instead. He has had mixed form lines but has a good barrier today and certainly deserves his opportunity in the race. A bit of luck in running would also be of help!
MANY REWARDS lines up in the Swear at Spendthrift Australia VOBIS Sires with Stephen Baster onboard. Backing up after a promising debut, blinkers are on today. The previous race day experience should stand to the horse and Stephen Baster will no doubt give the horse a positive ride, so all in all we should see them figure in the finish.
Stephen Baster also takes the ride on WEATHERTHESTORM in race 6 which is the Labrokes VOBIS Gold Distaff over 1400m, which is a trip that really suits her. The wet track should be a good help in this strong race which is a step up in class. The mare has been very happy in herself since her last run and is in great shape heading into this race.
We have a little breather before we are back again in race 9 with our final runner of the day, GOOD HOST to be ridden by Dwayne Dunn. We have blinkers on today too and the wet track should also favour this horse. He has been proven around the mile mark and in a tough race, we will need plenty of luck in running.
Although some of these horses have ran in Group races, days like today are a great opportunity for horses to race for stakes equivalent prize money. As so many of our horses have been bred by owner-breeder Lynne, we have lots of VOBIS eligible horses to run so a day like today is a big day for all the team.
Fingers crossed we will find a little bit of the VOBIS Gold today!
Wishing all the Owners and Connections the best of luck.
