Oaks Day at Pakenham

Nov 09, 2017

After a fruitful and rewarding trip to Cranbourne on Cup Day, today we send 4 runners to Racing.com Park Pakenham for their Oaks Day races.

First up in the opener is the 4 year old Tennaya who runs in the Racing.com Maiden Plate over 1000m. It is a first track run this prep for Tennaya and will be ridden by local hoop Brian Higgins. After trialing at the unofficial jump outs at Cranbourne last week, we are hoping that the horse will be more mature this prep. The mare carries a nice weight of 56.5kg and is drawn out of barrier 2 so with some luck in running will hopefully be in the mix.

Next up in Race 3 - the Drouin and District Community Bank Maiden Plate is Varekai. Making his track debut today, the 3yo Bel Espirit gelding has been working well at home and will also be partnered by Brian Higgins. It is difficult to know with a first starter exactly how things will pan out in a new environment and with lots going on to distract the horse but he certainly deserves his chance in this race today.

Jamie Bates partners Charlie Cheval who runs in Race 4 - the Hanson BM58 Handicap. Its another first up run this prep having come back from a long spell. at 1200m it might be a little short of his ideal distance but we re very happy with how the horse has been working at home. He is in great order so we expect to see a good run from him today.

Lastly, Fudged runs in Race 6 - the Pakenham Gazette BM58 Handicap over 1400m. Stephen Thornton takes the ride and with his 1.5kg claim, leaves Fudged in with a nice weight of 59kg. Despite not getting in the ribbons on her last 2 starts, she has ran well. We know she has a great turn of foot so we are hoping to see it up the Pakenham home straight this afternoon.

It's been a busy week for all the staff and we are lucky to have such a great team working together at Alderson Racing.

Best of luck to all the connections today!
